As a Phd student at Osnabrück University, I work on project P1: From associative to controlled learning of non-adjacent dependencies – brain function and structure. Previous research on associative learning has shown that 4-month-olds are still able to learn non-adjacent dependencies (NADs) from tone sequences whereas 24-month-olds learn NADs only from language stimuli. This leads to the assumption that associative NAD learning becomes a language-specific feature. Using EEG, we aim to determine the signal properties that enable 24-month-olds to learn NADs associatively.
